Remanded to judicial custody

Imphal, September 27 2021:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West remanded five executive members of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) to judicial custody for allegedly assaulting the Principal in-charge of Naorem Birahari College Ningombam Shitajit.
All of them were produced before the Court by a team of Imphal police station on completion of its police term along with the prayer for judicial custody.
The defence counsel of the student union leaders filed a remand objection along with a prayer for bail.
Those who were produced before the Court include DESAM vice president Oinam Shital (31) s/o Meghachandra of Tokpa Ching, assistant secretary general Mayengbam Somorjit (29), s/o Brojen of Pangaltabi, deputy finance M Anantaraj (18), s/o Angou of Kangabam Leikai, secretary organization and coordinator Kangabam Amarjeet (20), s/o Imo of Kangabam Leikai, secretary organization and coordinator Thoithoiba Nongthongbam (26), s/o Noren of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai, Principal of Naorem Birahari College Ngangbam Ekasini (64) of Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai and Vice Principal Irom Kunjabati (58) w/o Lokendro of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai.
The IO of the case submitted that all of them were arrested based on the complaint lodged by Principal in-charge of Naorem Birahari College Ningombam Shitajit of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai who alleged that he was assaulted by the executive members of DESAM in collusion with teachers of Naorem Birahari College at DESAM office at Kwakeithel on September 21.After hearing the IO and the defence counsel and on perusal of the case remanded all five executive members of DESAM to judicial custody by rejecting their bail application and order to release the Principal and Vice-Principal of the college on execution of PR and surety bonds.
