Union MoS reviews status of schemes

Union minister of state for Rural Development & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti along with Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Thongam Biswajit Singh held an interaction with officials of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution at the Conference Hall of The Classic Grande, Chingmeirong.
The union minister is on atwo-day visit in the state.
Following presentations on work progress and completion from the concerned department officials, the MoS lauded the rural development works undertaken in the state under the RD & PR department.
Sadhvi, however, expressed the need for Aadhaar linkage for beneficiaries to avail benefits under government schemes.
Citing National Food Security Act, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said that aadhaar linkage will help beneficiaries in getting rice under NFSA from any place.
Additional chief secretary of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj MH Khan, who was also present at the event, presented the status and project report of various schemes undertaken by the department.
He highlighted the achievement under various schemes including Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yoja-na (PMGSY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin, Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission, Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and National Rurban Mission.
CAF&PD deputy secretary Robertson Asem highlighted the ministry's allocation under National Food Security Act and other schemes including Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and also pointed out certain issues and challenges faced by the department in the implementation of the schemes.
The interaction was also attended by CAF&PD commissioner Bobby Waikhom, MoRD GOI director Saurabh Dubey, FCI manager Mahender Singh Negi, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj deputy secretary Lalrobul Fimate among others.
Earlier in the afternoon, union minister Jyoti along with Biswajit and officials of the department attended a 'Visit and Interaction' programme with members of Self Help Groups under the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission at Ningomthongjao Bazar community hall.
As part of the programme, food-grains under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and National Food Security Act were also distributed.
Biswajit said that people are now enjoying the benefits from various government schemes.
There is also progress in implementation of schemes in the state, he added.
He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, public have received 5kg of rice under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana during the lockdown imposed to contain COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing members of the SHGs, Jyoti said that Manipur has changed a lot since 2016, when she had first visited the state during the launch of the MUDRA loan.
She continued that Monday's programme was organised to encourage the SHG members become more self-reliant.
Stating that the present government under Prime Minister Modi has shown much concern and interest for the north eastern states, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti also expressed happiness with the development witnessed in the state.
She also said that the government's focus is to bring the North Eastern States at par with the other parts of the country.
As part of the interaction, 10 stalls showcasing local products made by the SHGs were also opened at the venue.
The interaction was also attended by officials of both CAF&PD and RD&PR.
