A 20-minute video clipping on human rights situation in Manipur shown at United National Advocacy Workshop held from November 26 to 28 last at Siam Baverly Hotel conference room, Bangkok evoked global response to the cause of Manipuri people.
The video clipping jointly prepared and presented by Universal Education and Well-Being and International Youth Centre, Imphal was shown on November 28.Many participants from various human rights groups of Asian region including East Timor, Indonesia, Philippines, Mongolia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc were shocked at the account of human rights violation in the tiny landlocked State of Manipur.
Under the initiative and concern of the participants, a signatory campaign against human rights violation and prolonged imposition of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 was also launched, with many human rights groups and activists extending their support to the ongoing movement in Manipur against human rights violation under the draconian Act.
UNIEDWELL secretary general Le Ji-nine Meetei who attended the workshop also distributed pamphlets titled 'Save Her' among the participants, detailing on Irom Chanu Sharmila's over 4-yr old hunger strike agitation against black laws.
