The two day National convention on Armed Forces Special Powers Act being organised by the Working Committee of Apunba Lup on December 8 and 9 and the mass public rally on December 10 would be attended by many people not only from Manipur, but also from other parts of the country.
This was informed by Committee co-ordinator Surjit Chongthamcha while addressing a press conference at Hotel Excellency here this evening.
The convention and the follow up public rally is being organised to coincide with International Human Rights Day which falls on December 10.Surjit said representatives of National Campaign Committee of Repeal of AFSPA; Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee; Association for Protection of Democratic Rights, Manav Adhikari Sangram Samiti; All India Students' Association; Yuva Bharat; India People Lawyers Committee: Forum for Democratic Initiative; Assam Jatiya Vadi Yuva Shatra Parishad; People's Union for Civil Liberties; Committee on Atrocities Against Women; People Union for Democratic Rights and All India People Resistance Forum would be taking part in the convention as well as the mass rally to uphold the democratic rights of the people.
There would be two sessions each of the National Convention to be held on December 8 and 9.On the first day of the convention, eminent scholar Prof M Horam and Consulting Editor of Economic and Political weekly Gautam Navlekha would be the chairpersons, he said.
On the second, Editor of Assamese daily Aji, Ajit Bhuyan and former Dean of Law, Gauhati University Prof Sanajaoba Naoriya would be the chairpersons, he said.
