World Environment Day observed at various places

Maram Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of Jwalamukhi Sector/IGAR (E) celebrated World Environmental Day to generate awareness and to remind the people about the importance of protecting nature.
As a part of the programme, tree saplings and shrubs were planted at the Nursery in Maram Garrison.
Similar plantation programmes were also carried out in the COBs.
Joining with the rest of the world, the Tribal Knowledge Foundation also observed World Environment Day by planting tree saplings yesterday.
The foundation expressed their heartfelt gratitude to John Sha, MFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati for providing the tree saplings.
Similarly, in observance of the World Environment Day, the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School jointly organised a number of activities such as tree plantation, slogan writing, painting, drawing and preparing a video clip to raise awareness on environmental issues.

A National Webinar under the theme 'Reimagine, Recreate, Restore: Ecosystem Restoration' was also organised on June 5 .
Fr Paul Adahe, the principal of DBHSS invoked God's blessings prior to the webinar while Gaanpatrei Kamei, the NSS programme officer of DBHSS proposed a welcome address.
Fr KO Sebastian, Principal, DBCM gave a keynote address in which he challenged the student community and said that only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people's livelihoods, counteract climate change and stop the collapse of biodiversity.
Sr Dr Bindu Thomas, the resource person, highlighted the types of ecosystems which could be restored, including forests, farmlands, cities, wetlands and oceans.
She threw lights on various environmental crises and explained how the student community can help in restoring the ecosystem.
Later, an open session was also held to clarify the doubts of the participant.
The programme culminated with a vote of thanks by Sr Sonal Vaghela CCV.
Maram Students' Union (MKS) in collaboration with Senapati Forest Division, Government of Manipur (CAMPA) under the theme "Reimagine, Recreate, Restore" also observed World Environment Day at Mystic Lizai Lake Premises, located on a hilltop, 12 Km from Senapati District HQs.
Various tree saplings including Cherry, Gulmohar, Hullock, etc were also planted as a part of the programme.
Likewise, in connection with World Environment Day, Paonam Brojen, MLA of Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency released around 27,000 small fishes to the newly developed Loubuk Pukri Achouba in Wangjing Wangkhei today and also planted sapling s in the vicinity.
The event was organised by Social and Cultural Development Centre (SOCDEC), Wangjing Wangkhei adhering to Covid SOPs.
Speaking on the occasion, Paonam Brojen said that concerted efforts are required from all for the protection and conservation of the natural environment and is not the sole responsibility of the Government only.
He lauded the members of SOCDEC for taking up such initiatives of fish farming and planting saplings to conserve the natural environment.
Further he appealed to all to strive for a well developed and self reliant economy.
