A would be candidate from Heirok Assembly Constituency, whose nomination paper was rejected during the scrutiny, has been arrested on the alleged charge of being involved in the bomb attack at the residence of Heirok MLA and Congress candidate M Oken on January 11 in which one person was injured.
The arrested man, dubbed a cadre of the UPPK has been identified as Moirangthem Totomsana (40) alias Toto alias Nongshaba alias Tiger s/o Tombiyaima of Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai.
Speaking to reporters, Inspector M Sudhirkumar, OC Thoubal district police commando informed that the cadre was arrested at around 9.20 am today during a counter insurgency operation launched by a combined team of district police commandos and 15 Assam Rifles at Wangjing area.
On verification, the arrested man disclosed that he was involved in the attack carried out at the residence of MLA Oken on January 11, the inspector added.

The cadre further disclosed that ahead of the attack, he met one Robin alias Robinson of UPPK at the residence of one Sobhakiran of Ukhongsang and planned an attact on MLA Oken's residence with hand grenades.
Inspector Sudhirkumar further alleged that the Bolero vehicle used by Totomsana in the attack belonged to Sobhakiran.
Moirangthem Totomsana filed his nomination paper to contest the forthcoming election but rejected during the scrutiny, he added.
