As testified by the highest ever death toll of 20 recorded during the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 situation is growing from bad to worse in the State.
The latest toll tops the 15 dead in 24 hours reported on May 9 .
While 20 persons fell prey to the contagion, 592 people were found infected by the virus during the last 24 hours, according to a release issued by Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang.
The 592 new cases is 8 short of the record 600 of May 7 .
The 20 persons who have fallen victim to COVID-19 were aged 79 (female, Churachandpur), 55 (female, Imphal East), 56 (male, Imphal West), 55 (female, Imphal East), 35 (female, Imphal East), 70 (male, Kakching), 85 (female, Kakching), 54 (male, Imphal East), 61 (male, Thoubal), 48 (male, Imphal East), 57 (female, Chandel), 54 (male, Imphal East), 53 (male, Imphal East), 51 (female, Thoubal), 55 (male, Imphal West), 55 (male, Kamjong), 71 (female, Imphal West), 77 (male, Imphal East), 51 (male, Thoubal) and 58 (male, Imphal West) expired at Churachandpur district hospital, Shija Hospital, CCC Kakching, Raj Medicity, JNIMS and RIMS.
Whereas the death toll has surged to 509, the recovery rate has further declined to 84.90 per cent.
Meanwhile, 592 people were found infected by the contagion at JNIMS, RIMS, Imphal East, Imphal West, Maipakpi Hospital, Mother's Care Hospital, CMC, Hillside Hospital, Little Clinic, Samaritan Hospital, RD Wing, Ema Hospital, Raj Medicity, Asian Hospital, Advance Hospital, Jivan Hospital, Shija Hospital, Babina Diagnostics, Escent Diagnostics, Thoubal, Bish-nupur, Kakching, Churachandpur, Chandel, Sena-pati, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Kamjong and Ukhrul.
They are residents of Imphal West (216), Imphal East (176), Thoubal (37), Bishnupur (32), Kakching (26), Ukhrul (27), Chura-chandpur (34), Chandel (3), Senapati (9), Tamenglong (1), Kangpokpi (18), Kamjong (1), Tengnoupal (7) and Jiribam (5) .
195 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from home isolation (162), RIMS (8), CAPF (4), RD Wing (2), BB (2), Shija Hospital (16) and Tengnoupal (1) .
The cumulative number of positive cases is 36,370 (general population 32,702 and Central security personnel 3,668) .
It includes 4981 active cases (general population 4803 and Central security personnel 178) and 30,880 recovered cases (general population 27,395 and Central security personnel 3,485).In the last 24 hours, a total of 1045 D type oxygen cylinders and 383 B type oxygen cylinders have been made available to health centres of the State.
District hospitals have 118 D type and 100 B type filled cylinders out of which Bishnupur has (14D, 12B), Chandel (18D, 9B), Churachandpur (13D,18B), Senapati (9D, 15B), Thoubal (25D, 27B), Ukhrul (7D, 10B), Tamenglong (12D, 4B) and Jiribam (20D, 5B) .
