Lamka, September 02 2015:
Even as tensions still simmer over the protest against the passing of three Bills which are seen as 'anti-tribal', a group of protesters today burnt down the Zonal Education Office here.
Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed today, with former ADC Mem- ber H Mangchinkhup as the head, raised the demand for a separate administration for the hill people.
The protest today was less aggressive till noon as womenfolk with their traditional mourning dress came out in thousands and held sit-in at the hospital campus as well as on the streets.
However the scene turned ugly again in the afternoon as several groups of protesters attempted to attack the police station from two sides.
The attempt however was foiled by a group of elderly women, who feared more casualties, after an hour long persuasion.

The protesters though appeared tp have relented to the plea, withdrew only to attack the ZEO office that was barely a few meters away from the Deputy Commissioner's residence.
The wooden office was first ransacked and its files burnt before the building was eventually reduced to cinder.
Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee which is set to spearhead all issues was formed today at KKL Complex here.
The JAC according to a joint declaration issued by three apex tribal bodies Hmar Innpui, Kuki Inpi and Zomi Council, was formed keeping in mind the present political situation in Manipur.
The three apex bodies in their declaration, the second since yesterday, said it acknowledges the need for a separate administration for the hill people of Manipur, and also eventually withdrawn the demand for ex-gratia and compensation they had call for during yesterday's declaration.
The JAC declared that it will not claim the bodies until and unless there is an honourable solution.
It has also decided to shut down all educational institutions until the dead bodies are claimed.
A sit-in-protest will be conducted at Lamka Public Ground from 10 am tomorrow under the aegis of the JAC, and their charter-of-demands which was discussed today but had to be halted midway due to attempted mob violence will be finalised there, said the JAC.
