Governor Dr SS Sidhu has stated that National Service Scheme (NSS) is medium for the people to keep their minds and their social environment neat and clean and it would ultimately help in shaping the destiny of the Nation and the future of the society.
Addressing as chief guest at the inaugural of the Ist NSS Mega camp at the Main stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports complex here today, Dr Sidhu observed that ensuring national integration is what the nation calls for today and the communal harmony is the need of the hour.
In this regard, the role of the students and youths is of paramount importance as they have to play a vital role in shaping the destiny of the Nation and future of the society.
Governor observed that the wheels of development can move faster only when there is peace and Manipur is lagging behind the other States of the country due to absence of peace.
So ensuring peace in the State is of paramount importance, he said, while exhorting the youths to play a proactive role in nation building process.
He further noted that Manipur is a mini-India where people belonging to different caste, creed and community, speaking different languages have been living together peacefully since time immemorial.
Peaceful co-existence is a glorious tradition of the people of Manipur and this has to be kept up for the larger good of the State and its society.
On the importance of organising NSS camps, Dr Sidhu said it promote not only the spirit of national integration and communal harmony among the young people who come from different parts of the country but also help in keeping the environment of the city or the village neat and clean.
He hoped that the volunteers taking part in the camp would contribute their mite in removing the dirt and filth that has accumulated in Imphal city.
These dirt and filth are the main cause of numerous health problems among the people, he said.
For peaceful co-existence among the people, there is peace among ourselves.
For this we should also keep out mind clean, he said, adding that animosity is breed from our body and not from our soul and heart.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr L Nandakumar, who presided over the function, expressed confidence that organising such NSS camps would help in channeling the potentials of the youths for the betterment of the society.
In order to solve the problems being faced by the youths of today, the assistance of other people are required.
But it would be better for the youths themselves to find out a solution to the problems.
Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya Singh, who was the guest of honour of the function, exhorted the youths take an active part in integration and development of the nation.
The Ist NSS Mega camp which would continue till September 25, is being organised State NSS Cell, Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur.
The main objective of organising the camp to promote the spirit of National integration among the youths.
