As part of the effort to sensitise members of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) and Self Help Groups (SHG), the NCUI, Cooperative Education Field Project, Bishnupur in association with Heigrujam Kamong PACS, Imphal West - I organised a one day seminar on HIV/AIDS today at Heigrujam Community Hall.
The seminar is the third one organised by the project under sponsorship from NCUI, New Delhi.
The first was held at Kha-Potsangbam on September 8 and the second on September 16 at Lilong Chajing, Imphal West-II.
Dr Sapam Budhichandra, MLA, Kh Borkeshor Singh, chairman, Management Committee, ICM Imphal, S Shyamsunder, ARCS, Imphal West-I, SC Borah, principal ICM Imphal and S Heramani, ex-president Heigrujam Kamong PACS graced the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Dr Budhichandra in his speech lauded the project officials for organising such seminar for the members of PACS and SHGs.
The chief guest who is also a doctor highlighted the delegates on the present scenario of HIV/AIDS in Manipur in particular and the country in general.
He said that more than 14,000 people are infected by HIV everyday in the country.
In Manipur out of 70,554 people screen for HIV, 15,523 people are infected with the virus including 3490 females, he said.
He said that the Government is laying greater emphasis on Information, Education and Communication (IEC) for spreading the awareness on HIV/AIDS through traditional media, AIR, TV etc.
and called for concerted effort to fight the disease for speedy development of the State.
