Moreh, September 20:
Taking serious note of State Governments proposal to hand over Tuito bridge (Molcham) and Tuibung bridge (New Somtal) located in the Indo-Myanmar international border the Border Area Village Chiefs Association demanded that the Government decision be reviewed without delay.
Talking to the press today, the association president and secretary reminded the State authorities of the said bridges serving as a vital link of villagers settled in and around Molcham and New Somtal villages.
The bridges are the only surface link for inhabitants of over 60 villages, they informed and also urged the Central Government to reconsider its policy of neglecting interior locations especially in the border area of Manipur.
Instead of handing over the bridges, constructed by the Britishers during World War II, to the Myanmar authorities it would be more appropriate and sensible if Central and State Governments chalk out measures to repair the same, the Association representatives observed.
In addition to Molcham and New Somtal villages, some nearby settlements named by the duo are Tuileng, Seijang, Khenjang, Laijang, LH Jenouphai, Bangmol Lampak, Yangoulen, Kenkumkol, L Bongjoi, Sengdok, Modelnon, T Molkham and Khenjoi.
