The State Food Safety Standard Wing has launched a drive to seize Maggi noodles and milk powder, which are hazardous to health at Khwairamband market from today.
Imphal West CMO and Food Safety Designated Officer S Bimolakumari said that the drive was initiated in the backdrop of reports on the presence of unsafe level of lead in Maggi noodles and live larvae in NAN PRO 3 baby milk powder, manufactured by Nestle.
She said that the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India has issued a strict directive to seize all the stock of these two brands from the market.
Saying that testing positive of the presence of health hazardous particles and organisms in edible items is a serious matter, Bimolakumari said that a woman was hospitalized as she collapsed after consuming Maaza a few days back in the State.

She further said that Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary have also instructed them to seize these two brands.
Saying that samples of these two brands would be sent to the laboratory for testing, she said that results of these tests would come within 15 days.
Apart from these two brands, packaged fruit items and drinks which are imported from Myanmar would also be seized during the drive, Bimolakumari said.
She also appealed to the general public to take care while buying fruits from the market as many fruit agents reportedly apply health hazardous chemicals on fruits like mangoes and bananas to make them ripe artificially.
