Non-local questioned over adulteration of sugarcane juice

After people complained of suspected adulteration of sugarcane juice by a non-local seller at the local super market, Kakching police questioned the one Shigasam Sahu (50) son of Dwarjka Sahu of Shahpur Bhojpur Bihar but presently residing at Kakching Moiranthem Leikai.
According to sources, based the public's complaints about Shingasam mixing unknown powder into the sugarcane juice, a team of Kakching police called up the juice seller for questioning on Saturday around 11 am.
Some powder which might be artificial sweetener was also retrieved from him and handed over to designated officer (in-charge) Food Safety Administration, Thoubal and Kakching for further verification.
Shigasam clarified that the powder mixed in sugarcane juice is to increase sweetness and taste of the juice.
However, the facts about the powder and its impact on human health will be known only after receiving the report from the food safety officer.
