Sit-in protest staged against CAB at Moirang and Wabagai

Bpr/Kak,, January 14 2019: United Clubs Organisation Bishnupur District (UCOBJD) and Moirang Kendra Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) in association with women vendors of Moirang Bazar, Moirang Lamkhai market andother business establishment owners staged a sit in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 at Moirang Keithel today and a protest rally was also demonstrated later.

During the sit in, several placards that read "We oppose the CAB 2016", "Declare clear cut stand of State Government on CAB", "Implement Manipur Peoples' Protection Bill" and "No CAB in North East India" were used by the protesters.

Speaking by the sideline of the protest, human rights activist, Phulindro Konsham said that the time is ripe for the public to teach a lesson to all those politicians who are working under a secret agenda of Central Government to wipe out the indigenous people of North East India.

Though many States of North East India have protested against the Bill and many BJP Chief Ministers threatened to resign from their posts if the Bill is passed in Rajya Sabha, Manipur Chief Minister said he will urge the Central Government to implement Manipur Peoples' Protection Bill 2018 instead of denouncing the CAB, Phulindro said and ques- tioned the validity of CM's statement All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) vice president Nando Luwang also took part in the protest demonstration.

The intention of the Indian Government to extirpate the indigenous people of North East India through its "One Nation, One Religion, One Language" ideology has become vividly clear, Nando said and urged the public of North East to unitedly stand against the contentious Bill.

Later, a protest rally was commenced from Moirang Keithel upto Moirang Lamkhai.

Kakching: Meanwhile, public of of Wabagai come together and staged a sit-in protest against the passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 at Wabagai Lamkhai Keithel in Kakching District today.

The sit-in was jointly organized by Democratic People Front, Manipur (DPFM) in association with Ching Tam Women Development Association, Manipur.

General secretary, Democratic People Front, Manipur Rojen Thongam said that Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 if implemented in the North East India will destroy the identities of indigenous people and cited the faith of Tripuri who has become a minority community in their own State.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill will allow naturalisation of international immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan; he added and said that the protest demonstration was staged to show disapproval against the said bill that has endangered the life of indigenous people by the foreign illegal immigrants.

DPF Manipur has also expressed solidarity to any movement against the Bill or demand for withdrawal of the Bill.
