Sanjit wins Summer marathon

Imphal, July 21 2013:
Th Sanjit Luwang of yairipok won the inaugural Ibudhou Thangjing Half Marathon by completing the 21 kilometre (approx) course from Ngaikhong Khullen Thongkhong near Bishnupur district headquarters to Moirang in 1 hour 14 minutes and 50 seconds.
L Ranjan Singh of Sunusiphai finished second in 1 hr 17 mins 33 secs while L Milan of Yairipok secured third position (1hr 20 min 58 sec) Md Iqbal Hussain of Lilong (1hr 22 min 22 sec) and H Sanajaoba of Khundrakpam (1hr 23min 53sec) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The top three position winners were presented Rs 30,000; Rs 20,000; and Rs 15,000 respectively while 4th to 10th place finishers were awarded Rs 2000 each.
Those who finished the long distance race in between 11th to 20th position were also presented Rs 200 each.
Tiddim Motors Area Manager Pranav Surav flagged-off the competition at 8.30 am.
The half-marathon conducted by Bishnupur District Athletic Association (BDAA) under the aegis of Athletic Association of Manipur was sponsored by Tiddim Motors (Tata Motors) and participated by 73 athletes from different districts and institutions.
The prize distribution ceremony was held with Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Kumbi AC MLA Sanasam Bira Singh as the chief guest and functional president respectively as titular king of Moirang K Ibohal Singh, BDAA president K Nipamacha Singh, Moirang Municipal Council chairperson Ph Rajen Singh, teacher (retired) Th Brajakumar Singh and social worker Th Shanti Singh graced the event as the guests of honour.
