Mary Kom bags gold in Asian Cup

Five time World Champion MC Mary Kom continued her wining spree at the "ASBC Asian Cup women's boxing tournament" in Haikou, China, as she claimed her first gold medal of the year beating Asian Champion Kim Myong Sim of North Korea in the final.
Playing her first tournament since her bronze medal winning performance at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, Mary Kom had made a place in the last two of her weight division drubbing Kate Appari of Philippines.
In the title clash she engaged in a hectic battle and had to work hard as her North Korean opponent put up a stiff challenge.
In the end though, it was the skill and agility of the world champion that came through as she went on to clinch the yellow metal with a 4:3 victory on points.
Pavitra playing in the feather weight category unfortunately had to face defeat in the finals as she lost out to Tossamalee Thonalan of Thailand.
Pavitra, a gold medallist at the 34th National Games started well in the bout, but the Thai boxer proved too much for her to handle with and she eventually went down 6:11 on points.
The 24 year old had to settle with the silver medal.
Earlier in the tournament Neetu (60kg), Kavita Goyat (75kg), Laxmi Padiya (81kg) and Kavita Chahal (+81kg) earned bronze medals for their performances.
Neetu in the light weight division lost to Chengdong of China 5:6 on points and in the middle weight category Kavita Goyat faced defeat at the hands of Li Jinzi also of China.
Laxmi Padiya in the light heavy weight and Kavita Chahal in the heavy weight category lost their bouts to opponents from Kazakhstan and China respectively.
