Student awareness programme on prevention of drug addiction, substance abuse organised

A one-day awareness programme for students on 'Prevention of Drug Addiction & Substance Abuse' was conducted at Waikhom Mani Girls College, Thoubal Okram today.
The awareness programme was jointly organised by Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (an IRCA for females)-ERANYAI; Health Care Centre (HCC, an IRCA for males) and NSS Program Unit I, II and III of Waikhom Mani Girls College.
District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Thoubal, K Nongpoknganba Salaicha; Waikhom Mani Girls College Principal, Professor H Manoranjan Sharma; NSS Program Officer Unit-I of the college, Assistant Professor L Sanatombi Devi; Head of Department of Geology, Thoubal College, Dr L Romendro Singh and Rural Voluntary Services (RVS), Wangbal secretary Babita Sapam graced as the presidium members of the programme.

Speaking as the resource person, Manipur State Mental Health Authority, Chief Executive Officer, Dr Khangembam Robindro Singh enlightened the gathering on the topic of the programme and gave valuable insights on preventive measures against substance abuse.
Addressing the gathering, DSWO Thoubal, K Nongpoknganba Salaicha said that the Social Welfare Department has been raising awareness especially among the students about this serious issue of drug addiction and substance abuse which has been plaguing the society for many years.
In this regard, the Home Department has been apprehending drug users and who are involved in drug business, he said.
He further stated that the Department will continue to organise awareness programmes against substance abuse for the well-being of all.
