Imphal, June 29 2024:
Members of Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace (KIKJCCP) left Imphal for Jiribam today to take stock of the situation in the district and provide aid to displaced folks.
Speaking to reporters before boarding a flight at Bir Tikendrajit Airport Imphal, Yumnam Ibeyaima, co-convenor of the committee, said the women vendors of Khwairamband Ima Keithel will meet the displaced folks in Jiribam in person and provide them all possible assistance.
"The displaced folks of Jiribam, whose houses have been burnt down by Kuki militants, are our people and they need our support.
Our visit, and meeting them in person would give them hope and strength to cope with the suffering they are enduring," she said.
27 members of the committee are visiting Jiribam and they will stay in the district for five days.
Ibeyaima said the committee and the people of the State strongly condemn the violence that has displaced hundreds of people in Jiribam.
Manipur's integrity can never be broken by the onslaught of refugees.
Any force that seeks to break Manipur apart will be met with the strongest of the resistance, she said.
Notably, violence erupted for the first time in Jiribam district after a Meitei man was killed by suspected Kuki militants on June 7.Since June 7, Kuki militants have burnt down nearly 100 Meitei houses at Jiribam.
Hundreds of people have been displaced and are now staying in relief camps.
