Thoubal project, Dolaithabi Barrage ready for inauguration: CM

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the State, Chief Minister N Biren Singh inspected Dolaithabi Barrage Project and Thoubal Multipurpose Project today.
Among many developmental works, the two mega projects are likely to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister during his visit on March 16.The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction works of the two projects.
Speaking to media persons at the barrage site, N Biren Singh said, "Dolaithabi Project is ready for inauguration".
He informed the media persons that all the six sluice gates of the barrage would be operational by March 10 .
The Chief Minister also informed about the Government's plans to develop the project sites of Dolaithabi, Thoubal and Khuga dams as tourist destinations so that local villagers may be benefited.
On villagers' request, the Chief Minister also assured to construct a market shed at Dolaithabi at an estimated cost of around Rs 5 to Rs 10 lakh.
The targeted area of agricultural land, which is to be irrigated by the project is 7,545 Ha.
The project began in 1992 with an initial estimated cost of Rs 1,886 lakh.
However, the project cost was revised in 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2013.The latest revision fixed the estimated cost at Rs.50847.88 lakh.
Later, the Chief Minister also inspected the work progress of Thoubal Multipurpose Project, where he told the reporters that the project is 99.9% complete and ready for inauguration by the Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister said that Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National President Amit Shah had assured him personally to take part in the first anniversary celebration of the BJP-led State Government which falls on March 15.Although the Prime Minister had also expressed his willingness to attend the celebration during their recent meeting in Guwahati, a confirmation is to yet to be received from the PMO, he said.
However, presence of the Prime Minister at the opening ceremony of the Indian Science Congress on March 16 is almost confirmed, he said.
As such, inauguration of different projects and foundation stone laying of National Sports University by the Prime Minister are being planned by the State Government during his visit.
The Chief Minister also informed that as part of the State Government's first anniversary celebration, several projects would be dedicated to the public from March 1 and 15.Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip, who was accompanying the Chief Minister during the inspection tour, said that all the pending issues of compensation for affected villagers would be resolved as soon as possible.
The matter was delayed due to bifurcation of Ukhrul district, he added.
The project is expected to irrigate 35,160 Ha of agricultural land apart from feeding 10 MG of water per day for water supply to the masses.
The project cost of Thoubal Multipurpose Project is Rs 1,998.99 crore while the total length of the dam of the project is 1074 meters.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip, Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar, MLAs H Dingo, L Susindro, Th Satyabrata, L Rameshwar and K Leishiyo, Media Advisor to CM Irengbam Aran, Chief Secretary RR Rashmi, DGP LM Khaute and top civil and police officers of the State Government.
