Imphal, August 03 2023:
The Kom Union Manipur and the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) have strongly condemned the brutal assault of Serto Ahao Kom by Kuki militants.
In a statement issued by its vice president, Kom Union Manipur said the attack on its president, Serto Ahao Kom is an attack against all Kom people.
It may be noted that the Kom Union Manipur president Serto Ahao Kom was brutally beaten by the Kuki militants near Chingphei village at around 8.30 pm of July 31 .
Serto was returning to his Khoirentak residence at Churachandpur from Langol Tarung.
He was beaten on the charge of having connection with the Meiteis.
The brutal assault left his left hand fractured and he was admitted to RIMS for treatment.
In the midst of the present clash in Manipur, Serto Ahao Kom was trying his level best to bring peace and harmony, said KUM, appealing to authorities concerned to take up necessary actions pertaining to the assault.
In a separate statement, FOCS said the Government and its law enforcement agencies should nab all the militants involved in the assault on the KUM president and take legal action against them at the earliest.
It said the brutal assault on the KUM president was an assault on the indigenous Kom people by the Kuki 'infiltrators' .
FOCS is against aggression against indigenous communities, it said, appealing to the Government to take action against the Kuki militants.
On the other hand, FOCS vehemently condemned the incident in which several women were hurt in Assam Rifles' lathicharge today at Bishnupur district.
The womenfolk were agitating against a planned step to hold a mass burial for dead "Chin-Kuki terrorists" at a Meitei settlement area of Torbung Bangla when Assam Rifles resorted to lathicharge to disperse the womenfolk, said FOCS.
