Tamenglong, January 17 2010:
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, once regarded as a boon for the povertystricken populace of this hilly district has turned into a 'cow shed'.
One can see mismanagement and neglect on the part of the authority concerned.
On visiting the vidyalaya today after winter vacation, a team of media persons found a room with cow dung and walls falling apart, where some students have laid their beds.
On being asked, a student of the vidyalaya said the dormitory belong to a section of students named as Udaigiri house.
One Hindi PGT by the name of Rita Jha said that the vidyalaya has watchman and sweeper but the 'mess' is because the school is being located at a temporary site.
Things will be improved once it is shifted to the permanent site, which may occur within the month of April 2010, the teacher added.
Given the present situation, whatever the reason, one can easily sense dereliction of duty, at least by the watchman and the sweeper.
The educational institution providing free education to 200 plus students in the ongoing session, under Ministry of Human resource development, Government of India and affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education also witnesses frequent student-teacher row, which one guardian said, on condition of anonymity, hampers holistic development of a student's career.
