Chief Minister Okram Ibobi left for New Delhi today to discuss with Home Minister P Chidambaram about the action plan initiated by the State Government to check extortion by different underground outfits in Manipur.
A well placed source informed that Chief Minister Ibobi will call on the Union Home Minister at 11 am tomorrow.
In addition to the prevailing law and order situation of Manipur, they would deliberate on the action plan taken up by the State Government to check extortion by UG groups in the State.
Notably, P Chidambaram during his visit to the State last year instructed the State Government to devise a mechanism to check extortion which he described as 'alarmingly high'.
Ibobi would take up the matter of deploying Assam Rifles along the 370 kms long Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border during his meeting with Chidambaram tomorrow.
The Survey of India and BRTF are currently engaged in border fencing work for 10 kms along Moreh side of Indo-Myanmar boundary.
Under the State Government's action plan to check extortion, necessary process has been already initiated to make employees draw their salaries from their own accounts.
Moreover, cell phone jammers have been installed at Sajiwa Central Jail and Imphal Central Jail.
Meanwhile, IPS (M-T cadre) Lari Dorjee Lerto has been posted at the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on deputation.
The NIA was established by the Centre on the line of US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate into terrorism related activities.
He is the first officer from Manipur to get posting at NIA.
