JCILPS lays out new stir modes

Imphal, August 29 2015 : Stating that there is a still long way to go for the implemen-tation of a new ILPS Bill, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has announced the future modes of agitation and activities to be adopted by the public.

In a statement issued by its assistant media coordinator Md Kheirudin Shah Moi-jingmayum, JCILPS urged the public to conduct mass prayers for successful passing of the Bill at their respec- tive localities at 10 am on August 31 .

JCILPS also urged to stage mass sit-in-protests at every locality from 10 am to 4 pm on the day.

The committee also requested the protesters to shout slogans - 'implement ILPS' and 'give assent to the passed ILPS Bill' every hour starting 11 am.

On the other hand, JCILPS also called upon the public for mass participation in the cremation of Sapam Robinhood.

After the new Bill is passed by the State Legislative Assembly, people must stop staging sit-in-protest, protest rally, forming human chain and staging hunger strike for some time, the statement said and added that people must instead assist JCILPS in chalking out plans for successful and effective enforcement of the Bill.

There is need for thorough discussions on future roles of local clubs, meira paibi bodies and civil society organi- sations in this regard, JCILPS said.

It further said that people must also press the Government to transform the Bill into an Act at the earliest possible time.

Expressing gratitude to the general public for their support to the JCILPS, the statement said that apart from the death of Sapam Robin-hood, many suffered injuries, many went to jail and many faced different inconveniences and hardships during the mass pro-ILPS movement.

Although, the State Assembly is now ready to pass a new ILPS Bill due to the people's uprising, every step of the State Government must be closely monitored, JCILPS said.
