A combined team of police commandos and Assam Rifles recovered arms, ammunitions and explosive of undergrounds while busting a hideout at Khoidumpat areas in Thoubal district, police said today.
The camp of the underground was busted in a night-long operation in the areas last night in which after a brief exchange of fire also took place, Senior SP of Thoubal district, Clay Khongsai said in a statement adding that the operation was launched by a joint team of 21 Assam Rifles and police commandos.
One 9 mm pistol with three live rounds, two hand grenades, one battery and clothes, which were left behind by the undergrounds were also recovered from the hideout, the statement added.
The combined team of police commandos and troops of 21 Assam Rifles launched the operation based on the disclosure made by a cadre of the PREPAK (VC-group) identified as Wahengbam Ingo @ Ibungo (23) son of W Shyamkumar of Wabagai Tera Pishak in Thoubal district who was nabbed last night, at about 7.30 pm.
On questioning the nabbed cadre, he disclosed that some armed cadres of PREPAK are camping at Khoidumpat.
When the combined force rushed to the area immediately, armed underground cadres opened fire towards the combined force.
The combined team instantly retaliated resulting to a brief exchange of fire, the Senior SP said.
The combined force found a hideout of the armed underground in further operation after the firing ceased.
They dismantled and destroyed the hideout, he added.
A cadre of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) was also nabbed by the Thoubal police commandos in other unrelated joint counter insurgency operation with the troops of 16 Maratha Light Infantry last night, at about
11.30 pm.
Five demand letters of the outfit addressed to Shija Hospital, Langol, Shanker Talkies, Lamphel, Regular School, Kwakeithel and two individuals signed by Khaba Meitei of KCP were recovered from the nabbed cadre identified as Md Majibur Shah alias Nanao (32) son of late Md Tomba of Hatta New Chekon, Imphal, the senior SP added.
