Union Home Minister's meetings with CMs of AP, Manipur, Assam a positive development: MC Konyak
Source: Oken Jeet Sandham (NEPS)*

Kohima, October 15 2012: The 20-Member team of Joint Legislators' Forum (JLF) of Nagaland headed by Assembly Speaker Kiyaneilie Peseyie has today met various leaders of the Central Government and also JD (U) President and Convener of Opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Sarad Yadav at Delhi.

The Team camping at National capital could meet Union Home Minister Susil Kumar Shinde, Union Agriculture Minister Sarad Pawar, JD (U) President and Convener of NDA Sarad Yadav today and had series of discussions with them as to how the solution to the protracted Naga political issue could be found at the shortest possible time.

Talking to NEPS over phone from Delhi today, senior DAN Minister MC Konyak said the 20-Member team of Nagaland's JLF could meet Union Home Minister Susil Kumar Shinde, Union Agriculture Minister Sarad Pawar who is also President of the NCP and Sarad Yadav, President of JD (U) and Convener of NDA today and had discussions to find settlement to the longstanding Naga political issue at the earliest.

The meeting of the presidents of NCP and JD (U) has assumed significance because any settlement whatsoever to the complex Naga political issue should have the support of various major political parties particularly Opposition parties in Parliament.

The Home Minister also informed the Nagaland JLF team about his discussions with Chief Ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur so as to reach the Naga issue to a logical conclusion.

"We are happy that the Home Minister has already initiated talks with neighboring Chief Ministers to find ways to reach the Naga issue to a logical conclusion," Konyak said.

"This is a positive development and because unresolved Naga issue is not only a problem for the State of Nagaland but also for the neighboring states particularly Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur" .

"It is a national issue," the senior DAN Minister explained exuding confidence that positive development would emerge soon for solution.

When asked any settlement before the State general election due early next year, Konyak said it could not be ruled out.

He also disclosed about their meeting with the collective leadership of the NSCN (IM) today at the national capital but refused to divulge details of their meetings.

Konyak, who was first elected from BJP ticket and also one time President of BJP Unit of Nagaland, disclosed that the JLF team would meet senior national BJP leader and leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj tomorrow and if possible with CPM leader Prakash Karat also to seek their supports in finding solution to the Naga issue.
