Imphal, October 15 2012:
With an aim to develop Table Tennis in the state, Manipur Table tennis Association will be hiring foreign coaches and train local players for a better
international career.
Even though Manipur used to produce good Table Tennis players, no players has made it to the top ranking of the country in the past 15 years.
Considering the changing scenario in the games, Manipur Table Tennis Association (MTTA) will be organising a 45 days residential coaching camp in April and May next year in Imphal.
Dr Kh Loken, President of MTTA told reporters in a press meet that MTTA will be hiring foreign coaches for the said coaching camp.
He further said that MTTA has 300 registered Table Tennis players at present and Manipur has around 1000 table tennis players including those who are not registered with MTTA.
As a pre-coaching training session, MTTA has been conducting non residential coaching camps on every Sunday since September 9 .
Around 40 players of cadet, Sub Junior and Junior girls and boys categories are participating in the coaching programme.
Any players who want to participate in the special coaching programme can come and become part of the coaching programme every Sunday, he informed.
MTTA has pressed the state government to appoint required Table Tennis coaches in the state, he added.
He further said that half of the total cost of the 45 days residential coaching camp with foreign coaches will be borne by Table Tennis Federation of India while MTTA will bear the other half.
Stating that Manipur has failed to produce good players who can make it to the Indian ranking, Dr Loken further added that the main reason behind the declining of performances by state players is the lack of coaches in the state.
At present Manipur has only one state coach of Table Tennis, he stated.
