UNC Council Assembly ends

Imphal, December 07 2013 : The 3rd Council Assembly of the United Naga Council (UNC) was held at Leibi Ma-ring village, Tengnoupal sub- division, Chamdil from Dec 2 to 4, 2013 and was hosted by the Maring Uparup.

The Assembly was attend-ed by the constituent tribe Ho- hos of the UNC, Naga frontal organisations, former UNC presidents and general secretaries and senior leaders of Naga community.

The Assembly began with the hoist- ing of the UNC flag by the president, said a statement.

In the key note address, UNC president dwelt on the resolution of the General Session of the Naga Hoho held at Wokha on November 25-26, to uphold Naga Unity and moved for reiterating the same in the Council Assembly.

The address also stressed on the need for inspired leadership and for building up the civil society institutions in terms of capabilities and resources.

Touching on the dialogue process on the Indo-Naga issue and the tripartite talk pro- cess on the demand for alternative arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pen-ding settlement of the Indo- Naga issue, the address plac-ed that it is the way of the de- mocratic world that when rights are recognised, the negotiation and dialogue that follows must lead to settlement sooner or later, and that people must continue to engage themselves in strengthe- ning their unity and institutions and proactively uphold their aspirations.

The 3rd Council Assembly amended the UNC constitution after examining the recommendations of the amendment drafting committee which was set up in the 2nd Council Assembly in March 2013 .

The 2-day programme also deliberated upon the non receipt of communication from the Government of India on the next round of tripartite talk, construction of UNC secretariat complex, organising of Lui-Ngai-Ni, 2014 among others and resolutions were accordingly adopted by the house.

The Council Assembly sessions were followed by celebration of advent Christmas and entertainment programme conducted by the Leibi Maring Village youth.

The programme concluded with a joint visit to the Indo-Myanmar border fencing areas on December 4, 2013 for an on the spot study of fencing work and situation obtaining there.
