Pineapples sent for bigger markets

Imphal, June 30 2024:
The State has airlifted the first consignment of a queen variety of pineapples of Mangal Organic Producer Company Limited, Imphal East to Delhi and Chennai today.
The consignment of 500 kilogram of pineapples was sent to the two cities with the support of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) under phase four of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MO-VCD-NER) from Imphal Airport.
The marketing of the pinapple variety is being done by Sikkim State Cooperative Supply & Marketing Federation Ltd, a service provider under MOVCD-NER.
Speaking to the media at Sanjenthong, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation K Devdutta Sharma said that the initiative was taken up to encourage the organic farmers of the State.
Expressing delight over MOMA helping Mangal Organic Producer Company Limited in marketing their produce in the two metropolitan cities, he said that the same variety of pineappl will also be marketed in other big cities viz Mumbai, Bengaluru etc in a phased manner.
Further stating that the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department bears 20 per cent of the transportation cost in sending the pineapples via air cargo, he added that the department also gives assistance to entrepreneurs and farmer producer companies in marketing their farm produce.
