NYKS youth festival begins

The 5th State Level Youth Festival, organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, kicked off today at Lamyanba Sanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal.
The three-day long festival was inaugurated by L Tilotama, Vice Chairperson, Board of Governors, NYKS, Delhi, who graced as the chief guest and Sahib Singh, Zonal Director, NYKS, as the President.
Other dignitaries were Ningthoukongjam Ibungochoubi, journalist; Dr Dhanabir Laishram, social activist and faculty, Indira Gandhi Tribal University.
During the function, the chief guest and the president presented Rs 25,000 and State Level Youth Club Award 2013-2014, NYKS to the Network of Economy and Welfare Services, Kumbi, Bishnupur District.
Dr Dhanabir addressed the gathering on "Youth and National Character", and stressed on discipline, sincerity, punctuality and hard work as the need of all the youths in the country.
L Tilotama spoke about the importance of organising an event to promote the talents of the energetic youths.
She said it will help them to be self reliant and realise their ingrained potential.
Various competitions like Manipuri Folk song and dance, tribal folk song and dance were be held during the three days.
Local handloom and handicrafts are also being put on display in the exhibition.
Cash prizes, mementos for the exhibition and the competition will be awarded during the closing function on February 27 .
