Kanggui, February 25 2014 :
Although none of the tribal organisations within Sadar Hills endorsed the 72 hours chakka bandh called by Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur (COPTAM) which came into force last midnight, the bandh was effective along NH-2 within Sadar Hills today.
All passenger buses stayed off the road while private vehicles were partially seen on the highway.
In the meantime, movement of inter-State passenger buses, wingers as well as tankers including other commodities transporters have also been severely affected by the COPTAM chakka bandh.
Kanggui to Imphal bound passenger bus parking wore a deserted looked here while the same happened at Sapormeina and Motbung as well.
Many commuters along the NH-2 within Sadar Hills faced lots of inconveniences due to the Chakka bandh which will continue for another two more days.
A part from the daily commuters candidates of the on going Class XI & XII Examinations conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur were hit hard though they were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
However, considering the on going examinations the Naga Peoples Organization (NPO) had earlier announced not to endorse the COPTAM 72 hrs "Chakka Bandh" though they are very much aware of the genuineness of the COPTAM demands for the welfare of the tribal people.
No untoward incident has however been reported today till filing of this report.
