Library inaugrated

In the age of knowledge, one will not be able to compete with the rest of the world and library provides the avenue to gain knowledge, Governor VK Duggal said today while inaugurating the building of a Library Development Youth Association at Elangkhanpokpi in Thoubal district today.
He mentioned that Raja Ram Mohan Roy, one of the great reformists of the early 19th century, had emphasised the need to move from the traditional to modern subjects nearly 200 years ago, for which he is remembered as 'Maker of Modern India or Father of Indian Renaissance.
Saying that education has now moved a few steps beyond printed works, Governor VK Duggal also stressed the need for the library to invest in internet facility in this age where distance has become irrelevant so that the clients can access information which is not readily available in the library.
President of the inaugural function, Prof HNK Sarma, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University dwelt on the need to maintain the library while also stressing on the need to provide internet connectivity to clients of the library.
Donor of the building site, Dr L Tombi Singh, Prof and Head, Dept of Economics, MU graced the function as the guest of honour.
The library has been constructed with a substantial financial contribution from the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata.
The library has already had around 7000 books in its shelves.
