Uikey reaches out to displaced folks

Saying that resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their native places won't be possible at this point of time given the risk factor involved, Governor Anusuiya Uikey has sought cooperation from all stakeholders concerned to resolve the crisis in Manipur.
She made the statement at the closing ceremony of the 15 day summer children theatre workshop held at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre at Lamboikhognangkhong, today.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Anusuiya Uikey continued that the crisis in Manipur has affected every section of society.
The Governor also said that she hasn't seen what has been happening in Manipur anywhere else.
Saying that she understands the plight of the people taking refuge at different relief camps and their desire to return home, the Governor added that the situation, however, is not conducive and extremely risky for the IDPs to return to their villages.
Appealing to the Government to take up an initiative to set up a colony for the IDPs to reside by consulting with a housing society and give some sources of income to them, Anusuiya said that she has been consulting with the Central Government to address the issues being faced by the displaced folks.
The initiative being taken up by the Government to restore normalcy in Manipur may see some result in the near future, she said while appealing to all stakeholders concerned to cooperate with the Government in implementing the peace building measures.
Meanwhile, the Governor lauded the organisers of the workshop for taking up an initiative to build confidence among the displaced children and relieve their stress.
She also said that Raj Bhavan will extend all possible assistance to alleviate the suffering of the IDPs.
The workshop was organized by National School of Drama, New Delhi and National School of Drama (TIE Wing),Tripura, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department and Khenjonglang (a theatre group) especially for the children taking refuge at the relief camps set up at the expo centre and temporary shelter home at Sajiwa Jail complex.
During the programme, the Governor interacted with 120 displaced children and their guardians.
She also distributed certificates to children who participated in the dancing and painting events held as part of the workshop.
Vice Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture Professor P Gunindro, Director of Khengjonglang Dr Thaninleima and officers of the Social Welfare Department, attended the closing ceremony among others.
