Meet resolves to ban movement of AR

The Com-mittee on Mass Protest against Assam Rifles has put a complete ban on movement of the paramilitary force start-ing tomorrow.
The resolution was taken during a public convention held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at Palace Compound today.
The convention was held under the topic "Convention on Oppressive Tactics of Assam Rifles to Silence the People" .
Ahead of the convention, Porompat police arrived at the venue and locked the hall (Shumang Leela Shanglen), following which a heated altercation broke out between the organiser and the police.
Imphal East SP also arrived at the area and held talks with the organiser.
Despite the objection by police, the convention was held by breaking the lock in the presence of Lukmai Sellup convenor Mayeng-bam Phajabi, and Uripok Apunba Nupi Lup president Potshangbam Joyshree as presidium members.
The convention was moderated by former Principal of DM College of Arts Dr Sheelaramani.
At least three resolutions were taken during the convention and they include complete withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur as they are allegedly taking sides in the conflict and to ban movement of Assam Rifles.
They also resolved to urge the Government to refrain from taking up FIRs against the Meiteis who work to secure the future of the ethnic group.
The gathering further agreed to launch a people's non-cooperation movement from September 16 if there is no positive response from the Government by September 15 .
Speaking to the media, one Mona Devi Angomjamba claimed that Assam Rifles has been oppressing the Meiteis since the onset of the violence on May 3 .
Accusing the Assam Rifles of taking side against the rule of the law and attacking the Meiteis along with Kuki militants, she said that the convention was held to highlight the excesses of the paramilitary force.
