Imphal, July 17: Not wishing to live any longer under the care of an ineffective Government that could not provide security to its subjects and pull up guilty security personnel out in the prowl to strike people at random, denizens of Khongjom area have threatened to allow themselves to be killed by security personnel instead of enduring a miserable life.

In a statement made available to the press, Universal Peace and Integrity Council, Manipur with its head office at Khongjom bazar said that since the ruling SPF Government has failed to provide security to the people of Manipur there is no use for living.

The statement maintained that there is no use for the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers to remain in power if they could do nothing to pin out and punish guilty security personnel who have been slaying innocent persons at random.

It would be far more honourable for the Chief Minister to hand over the rein of power to the security personnel so that they could quench their killing instinct without any opposition from any quarters.

Instead of living any longer under the administration of an ineffective Government with shadow of fear and insecurity looming large all the time, the people living in the sacred soil of Khongjom where our brave forefathers have sacrificed their lives while fighting for safeguarding freedom and independence, would accordingly allowed themselves to be killed by security personnel in mass, the statement threatened.

The Council also wondered that the patience and gut of all the 60 MLAs in the State Assembly who could remain quiet and indifferent to the public outcry even after womenfolk have bared their bodies in protest against the excesses being committed by security personnel on innocent people of the State.

There is no reason for the people to be proud of their representatives, it said, adding that the prevailing situation has come to such a stage that there is no meaning for living for the people.

The Council further demanded lifting of curfew immediately instead of giving bravado to the security personnel for striking innocent people at random.
