DESAM executives granted bail

Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West today granted bail to all the 16 arrested executives of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) on surety bond of Rs 10,000 each.
They were arrested by a team of Imphal police station for allegedly thrashing a teacher of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou after he smacked a Class VI student of the school with a stick on June 17 .
The student leaders were produced before the Court under suo moto case of FIR number 243 (6) 2015 of Imphal police station under Section 341/342/326/506 and 34 IPC.
A large number of students from various schools and colleges gathered at Cheirap Court complex after getting information regarding their Court appearance.
However, they were produced before JMIC Imphal West at Lamphelpat.
Although, police pleaded the Court to remand the student activists to judicial custody, the Court granted bail to all of them on surety bond of Rs 10,000 each.
However, the Court asked them not to threaten or influence any witness and victim and make themselves available before the Court and concerned police station whenever they are required.
Meanwhile, students of various schools and colleges staged sit-in-protests at the gate of their respective institutes demanding release of DESAM executives within 24 hours.
The arrested student activists include DESAM presi- dent Moirangthem Angamba (31) s/o (L) Saratchandra of Nongada Makha Leikai, vice-president Arambam Thoithoi (33) s/o Biren of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and secretary general Pukhrambam Premchandra (32) s/o Binodkumar of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai.
On the other hand, Lamphel police have taken up a suo moto case against St Joseph's School computer teacher Gurumayum Rupachandra Sharma (35) s/o Jadumani of Uripok Achom Leikai for beating a Class VI student of the school with a stick yesterday.
