Senapati, June 20 2015 :
Former longest serving NPO president M Dili has been elected as the new president of Mao Council during the Mao Council assembly held on June 19 at its headquarters at Tadubi.
A press release issued by its information and publicity secretary L Ephriiwo Pfoze informed that the house unanimously elected M Dili of Mao Karong, Punanamai village as the new president of Mao Council for 2015-2018 tenure.
Attended by Mao village authorities, social leaders, Mao bodies, intellectuals, women and youth bodies, the assembly blessed the new leader.
M Dili, who is also the former president of Tenyimi Union, is considered to be one of the most senior social leaders of the community.
Angami tribe is one of the most important constituent units of Tenyimi Union.
Bringing a settlement to the ongoing tension between Mao Council and SAPO over Dziiko and Koziiri boundary issue will be Dili's first task to be accomplished.
It may be noted that election of a new Mao Council president necessitated in the wake of prolonged absence of a leadership after the former president resigned on moral ground over the issue of withdrawing a total bandh to protest the indifferent attitude of the State Government on the controversial Dziiko, Koziiri boundary issue.
