Imphal, June 20 2015 :
Tamenglong police have failed to take up any case regarding an alleged rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl of Oktan village, 17 km from Noney, although all the accused have admitted to the crime before the village customary court.
Victim's father said that all the three accused belong to their village and they are about the same age as his daughter.
He said that her daughter was allegedly called out by one of the accused, who is her boyfriend, at around 7.30 pm on June 4 .
After she did not return home that night, the girl was found hanged inside an empty and abandoned house of the village the next morning.
Village chief VP Achou said that such crime happened in the village for the first time.
After the girl's family lodged a complaint against the three suspects, the village customary court investigated the matter.
During the course of investigation, the teenagers admitted that they hung the girl inside the house after being raped and murdered, VP Achou said.
They have not only taken the recordings and signatures of the accused but also seized a cloth and a piece of wire used in the crime, he added.
Regarding the incident, the village authority conducted a village meeting on June 7 .
The village chief said that the main accused and the girl had an love affair from January this year.
He said that another village meeting would be held on June 27 .
The family of the alleged culprits would be asked to provide a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the family of the girl, he said.
Moreover, the trio would be banished from the village, he said and added that necessary action according to the customary law would be initiated against them if they do not leave the village within four days.
Meanwhile, volunteers of Women Action for Development (WAD) visited the family of the victim today.
Speaking to reporters WAD representative Bijaya expressed serious concern over not taking up any case against the culprits till date.
Although, the village customary court has awarded their punishments to the culprits, the law of the land must also take its own course regarding the incident, she added.
Such incidents would continue to happen if the police do not take any action against the culprits, she added.
Last rites of the girl had already been performed without conducting any post mortem examination, she said.
