Imphal, June 20 2015 :
DESAM's 16 activists including the president who were arrested by the police on June 18 were released on bail after being produced before a duty Magistrate on Saturday.
The Magistrate, Alek Muiva asked them to give a bail bond of Rs 10,000 each.
The executive members of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), including its president Moirangthem Angamba, were arrested by the police on the charge of assaulting a computer teacher of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou.
Computer teacher Gurumayum Rupachandra is accused of severely beating a Class VI student of the school, who ,he had claimed, showed bad attitude to him.
DESAM will stick to its stand on the demand for sacking the 'guilty' teacher, alliance president Moirangthem Angamba told journalists at the Court complex after being released.
The teacher has violated the RTE and hence he should be removed by the school authority, he cleared the student body's demand.
He demanded that the State Government introduce a subject on RTE in the school syllabus and formulate a guiding principle for all private educational institutes in the State.
Angamba said there should be a mandatory screening of educational qualification of all private school teachers including that of Catholic ones.
However, Angamba on behalf of DESAM tendered an apology to the public over the teacher assault incident saying this kind of conduct was also infringing upon the RTE.
