Imphal, November 29 2023: With the law and order situation improving considerably in Moreh, no mass rally was held today at the border town even though rallies demanding separate administration for Kuki-Zo tribes were held today at some places dominated by the particular tribes.

Under the aegis of an organisation named Zo United, mass rallies were taken out at places dominated by Kuki-Zo tribes in Manipur and also at some places outside the State.

However, nobody came out in support of the rally at Moreh today while some PDF militants were seen fleeing across the border on seeing the security forces.

On the other hand, in view of the highly volatile situation prevailing along Indo-Myanmar border following the intensified fighting between the Myanmar junta and militants, Manipur Police have taken up strong security measures along the Manipur (India)-Myanmar border including Moreh and Kwatha, according to sources.

Combined teams of Manipur Police commando, Manipur Rifles and IRB have intensified patrolling and search operations from Moreh to Kwatha. The security forces observed indications of Myanmar rebels taking shelter at several places just across the border, close to Kuki villages of Manipur.

A combined team of Manipur Police Commando, MR and IRB carried out a special inspection drive at villages located close to the Indo-Myanmar border in between Moreh and Kwatha last morning.

At a place located just across the border inside Myanmar but facing two Kuki villages of Manipur, PDF rebels and their supporters were seen cooking meals and drying clothes, said the sources.

On seeing the State security forces, the PDF rebels and their supporters abandoned their belongings and ran farther into Myanmar territory.

The security officers who led the combined team also interacted with the chiefs of both Kuki and Meitei villages (Kwatha and Kwatha Khunou) and appealed for peaceful co-existence, said the sources.

Meanwhile, most villagers of Kwatha Khunou have been staying at Kwatha in the wake of the violent conflict.

As such, the villagers have been enduring a very difficult situation with limited supplies of medicines coming from Assam Rifles and the district administration, said the sources.

Kwatha village is guarded by Assam Rifles troops but the villagers cannot go beyond their village to buy essential commodities.

At the same time, they do not have access to markets to sell their agricultural produces including fermented bamboo shoot which is produced abundantly in the village, added the sources.
