Imphal, July 25: Exerting more heat on the Chief Minister, seven MLAs including two Ministers of the SPF Government have threatened to resign from their respective posts, if the assurance given by the Chief Minister that a final decision on whether to lift AFSPA from the State by August 15 is not translated into action.

The stand of the 7 MLAs has invariably raised a question over the very survival of the Government.

The seven MLAs had earlier promised the family members of Manorama that they would tender their resignations from their posts if the AFSPA is not withdrawn within the stipulated deadline.

The assurance was given when they had gone to the late woman's house, on behalf of the Government, to persuade them to take back her body on July 22.Speaking to the media today, PHED Minister Govindas Konthoujam, said that they had urged the Chief Minister not to wait till August 15 to take a final decision but to lift the Act from some parts of the State soon.

This suggestion was made during the SPF meeting held yesterday.

To convince the Central leaders to take necessary steps to lift the Act, Chief Minister O Ibobi accompanied by FCS Minister Ph Parijat left for New Delhi today.

MLA N Biren who was also present at the press briefing said that the 7 MLAs who had announced their decision to resign will do so if the Act is not lifted by August 15.He also appealed to the people to wait till August 15 and see what happens.

Asserting that the Government is doing its best, MLA Bijoy Kbijam appealed to the people to maintain peace and added that the State Government has been apprising the Centre to rein in the security personnel.

Reiterating his decision to quit by August 15, if the assurance is not implemented, K Ranjit said his decision is final adding that all the young MLAs have been speaking out their minds on the need to revoke the Act.
