Jiribam, June 30 2024:
Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace contended that the on-going humanitarian crisis in the state is not the fault of the people but fallout of ministers and MLAs' failure.
Speaking to reporters after distributing relief items to residents of relief camps set up around Jiribam town on Sunday, Committee convenor Laishram Mema asserted that lack of foresight on the part of the people's representatives as well as the government is the root cause of the crisis gripping the state.
With ministers and MLAs prioritising their positions rather than working for the well-being of the people, it is but natural that elements inimical to progress of Manipur are exploiting the situation, she said, adding that the legislators should be held responsibility for suffering of the people.
Enquiring as to why Meetei houses were being singled out and destroyed and attacks continue unabated despite government claim of central and state forces deployed in inadequate strength in the border district, Mema said security forces are undermining safety of the citizens and simply following orders of the higher-ups due to fear of losing their jobs.
Meanwhile, the convenor said that the committee members are in Jiribam to provide assistance to the people whose houses have been destroyed in the crisis and are taking shelter in different relief camps.
