Imphal, May 23 2024:
A peaceful and harmonious Manipur would continue to remain wishful thinking unless a political solution to the crisis could be worked out, said Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC).
In a statement, CPI-MSC assistant secretary M Joy kumar recounted that the Council had been urging the state government repeatedly that only a political solution could resolve the prevailing crisis and restore peace and harmony in the state.
Consequent to the ethnic violence, CPI formed a state level task force in mid-May last year to assist in resolving the crisis as soon as possible.
The Council continued that a team of the party had carried out protest for three days at Jantar Mantar and other places, apart from carrying out peace rallies, public meetings, sit-ins and other forms of demonstrations.
However, it seems that the BJP-led government exists only in name as it continues to do nothing to mitigate suffering of the people.
The government only claims to have restored peace in the state in the media which is far from the ground reality, Joykumar rued.
