MoU signed to augment fish yield

Bharathimana-co Manipur, a multi-state co-operative society for fisheries, under Union Ministry of Cooperation signed an MoU with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Agricultural Technology Appreciation Research Institute (ATARI) Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya for increasing fishery production in Manipur and Nagaland.
The MoU was signed by Bharathimanaco Manipur chairman Dr Ramanando Khundrakpam and ICAR-ATARI director Dr A K Mohanty at the institute on Wednesday in the presence of ICAR-ATARI, principal scientists Dr AK Singha, Dr R Bordoloi and Dr T Amurtha.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Ramanando informed that as per the MoU, ICAR-ATARI, Umi-am will provide technical guidance to Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Manipur and Nagaland with regard to fisheries and conducting innovative projects on freshwater fishery such as species diversification, breeding, etc.
He continued that the MoU will also enable technology demonstration and skill-based training to fishery start-ups along with working on development of fish farmers from economically weaker sections in Manipur and Nagaland.
