Organic pineapples despatched to Delhi, Chennai

Imphal, June 30 2024:
Horticulture & Soil Conservation director K Devdutta Sharma on Sunday flagged off a consignment of 500kg of organic queen variety pineapple for Chennai and Delhi markets.
The pineapple were cultivated by farmers under Mangal Organic Farmers/Producers' Company Limited, an Imphal East-based entity set up under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER).
The flagging off ceremony was attended by MOMA project director Donald Soubam, SIMFED state in-charge Ningombam Debonair and other MOMA officials.
Speaking on the occasion, director K Devdutta Sharma informed that transportation of the consignment was initiated by Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Limited (SIMFED) and marketed by a firm called Neon.
He said that MOMA has been encouraging and promoting farmer producer companies and local entrepreneurs including assistance in transportation and packaging of products.
The director stressed the need to export more of the products of the state, thereby helping to increase the income of the farmers as well as improve the economy of the state, while informing that efforts are underway to ship more organic products to other states and metropolitan cities.
