Imphal, September 29 2023:
Maintaining that there is no reason to remain in the party when Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot spare even some time for our leaders, Organizing Committee of Public Assembly for Restoration of Peace in Manipur has demanded that all members of BJP Manipur Pradesh resign from the party and dissolve Mandal offices.
The committee also warned that any untoward incident arising out of non-compliance of the said demand would be the sole responsibility of the primary members, office bearers and representatives concerned.
Addressing media persons at Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai office of Thawai Mirel on Friday, Committee spokesperson Kh Indrajit said that a meeting held on September 26 at Thambal Shanglen of BJP had 15 of its representatives holding discussion with BJP office bearers.
During the meeting, 10 demands of the committee were discussed but ended without consensus.
He asserted that as none of the demands was honoured, it is not possible to restore peace in Manipur considering the manner in which the crisis is evolving.
Apart from primary members of BJP and office bearers, all BJP corporators and nagar panchayat members should also resign from their respective posts, he insisted, and asked BJP allies -National People's Party (NPP) and Naga People's Front (NPF) to withdraw support or resign from primary membership of their respective parties.
Indrajit also appealed to the public to remove all hoardings displayed in public places with photos of national BJP leaders and boycott 'Swachhata Hi Seva' programme which is slated for October 2 next.
While clarifying that the movement of the committee is neither to target any individual/party nor to create disunity, Indrajit pointed out that as PM Modi has no time for our leaders, there is no reason to remain in the party.
We need to come forward as one Manipur which will definitely give a blow to the state and central governments and ultimately help in containing the violence in Manipur.
It is with this motive that the committee has taken up this step.
Any untoward incident arising out of any group or individual defying the committee's call should be their sole responsibility, he added.
Indrajit also said that if parties supporting BJP withdraw their support, the incident of killing of two students and atrocities committed by security forces towards the student community would not recur.
The committee's initiative is not intended to pave the way for imposition of President's Rule in Manipur as the BJP is apprehensive about, he clarified.
