JAC gets ready for agitations

Even as the relatives of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi met Governor Anusuiya Uikey today and demanded retrieval of the mortal remains within 24 hours, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with murder of the two students has said that they are ready to launch a series of agitations by joining hands with different organisations and meira paibi lups as the Government has failed to trace the bodies and nab the murderers.
The victim families were accompanied by ex-MLA of Patsoi Constituency AK Mirabai during the meeting with the Governor.

Speaking to the media in front of the Raj Bhavan gate after meeting the Governor, AK Mirabai said that the Governor has been urged to locate the whereabouts of the bodies within 24 hours and arrest the Kuki militants who kidnapped and murdered the innocent students.
The Governor, the Prime Minister and every section of people condemned when two Kuki women were paraded naked by a mob while the houses of some of the accused were burnt down by Meeteis in less than 24 hours after the viral video surfaced on social media but all the Kukis including civil society organisation, guardians, intellectuals are maintaining a studied silence over the killing of the two Meetei students let alone disclose the identity of the killers and the same is very unfortunate, she said.
It has been over two months since the two students went missing in July but there is no positive response on the investigation of the case till date, the ex-MLA said and urged the CBI to investigate the case expeditiously and arrest the killers at the earliest.
AK Mirabai also conveyed that they have urged the Governor to look into the use of brute force by the security forces in controlling the student protesters and highlight the same to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Reportedly, the Governor has assured to visit the injured students and the families of the two deceased students at their residences.
Meanwhile, the JAC formed in connection with the murder of the two Meetei students said that they are prepared to launch a series of agitations with the help of different CSOs, student organisations, meira paibi lups since the Government has failed to retrieve the bodies and take action against the killers within the 48 hour ultimatum served.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, JAC convenor L Kanta Meetei said that they urged the Government to retrieve the bodies within 48 hours soon after the pictures of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi taken in captivity and after murdering them were circulated widely on social media so that the victim families could perform the last rites of their beloved.
He said that the JAC had also served a 48 hour ultimatum to the Government which the latter has failed to deliver.
The CBI investigating the case should deliver swift justice to the two students as all evidence of the murder is available, Kanta added.
Saying that they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on September 26 to trace the bodies and book the killers, he continued that the 48 hour ultimatum they served has expired.
Reiterating that they are prepared to launch agitations since there is no positive response from the side of the Government, Kanta appealed to the people to support their movement and make it complete.
