Imphal, September 29 2023:
The Research Scholar's Forum, Dhanamanjuri University (RSF DMU) has maintained that the State Government should be held accountable for the numerous students injured at the hands of State and Central Security Forces during the recent protests.
A statement issued by Y James Singh, general secretary, DMU Research Scholars' Forum said that the security forces used excessive force in dealing with the protesting students who had merely taken to the streets to exercise their democratic right to protest and demand justice for the killing of two innocent students, Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Lingthoingambi.
Stating that the Government should immediately put a stop to such unchecked use of force by security forces in handling protesting students, RSF DMU cautioned that failing to do so might result in innocent students keeping aside their education to stand against the Government.
Questioning the high-handedness of the security forces, RSF DMU has asked the State Government to clarify if there is a separate set of laws being applied for the hills and the valley.
Further RSF DMU has questioned if the Central and State Government are fearful of some groups exposing the skeletons in their closet that they continue to remain so passive and cowardly.
It added that the public has now started asking if the violent treatment meted out to the valley civilians is being done to please certain sections of the population.
In case of the horrific nude viral video incident, the perpetrators were apprehended speedily.
However, in this case of two students, where the suspected culprits are visible in the viral photo itself, RSF DMU questioned why no arrests had been made so far.
RSF DMU has also expressed a lack of faith in the CBI inquiry while citing CBI inquiries from the past that failed to successfully solve the cases.
