Imphal, September 29 2023:
Cautioning the state government that limit of tolerance of the public has been crossed and they are compelled to defy peaceful means due to the ethnic crisis lingering over almost 5 months now, National People's Party (NPP) general secretary RK Rameshwar has dared chief minister to act like a man so that others will follow suit.
The general secretary was speaking to reporters during his visit to Shija Hospitals, Langol to extend monetary assistance to those students injured in police action during the agitations on September 26 and 27 in Imphal.
The students were demanding justice for Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit who are presumed killed by armed Kuki militants, considering the viral photos circulated on the social media.
Rameshwar handed over cash assistance to Loitongbam Kishan (16) of Yairipok Angtha Mamang Leikai who suffered bullet injury on his shoulder, Laishram Bishwanath (17) of Shamurou Mayai Leikai (pellet gun injury), Sanasam Sylvester (23) of Thoubal Sabaltongba (hit by teargas shell) and Mayanglambam Johnson 124) of Top Khongnangmakhong (rubber bullet injuries).
Speaking to reporters, RK Rameshwar expressed strong resentment that the police personnel used excessive force against students who were demanding justice for the two students slain by armed Kuki militants.
He further stated that there is no one who does not like to have peace.
All of us desire peace to be restored.
However, even after 4 months have passed, the crisis continues and the people are left to wonder what steps are being taken up by the government to contain the violence.
Under such a situation, the chief minister should act like a man and take decision boldly.
In doing so all the people will follow his steps, he opined.
