Oinam MLA, bodies condemn killing of students

Many continue to condemn the merciless killing of two innocent students Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi by Kuki militants and the excessive force used by security personnel against the unarmed student protestors.
Condemning the brutal killing of two students, Oinam MLA Irengbam Nalini has said that she will extend all possible help in ensuring punishment of the killers to ensure justice to the two young students.
In a statement, Nalini said that the photos uploaded on social media reveal how brutally Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit were killed and the incident sparked widespread protest in Manipur particularly by the students.
She also expressed regret over high casualties suffered by the students during the protests.
According to Nalini, MLAs currently camping in New Delhi submitted a joint statement to Union home minister Amit Shah on September 26 urging him to take immediate action for booking and punishing perpetrators of the crime.
Meanwhile, Kabui Union Manipur, Kabui Students' Organisation, All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association, All Kongba Road United Clubs' Organisation, Research Scholars' Forum Dhanamanjuri University and Rongmei Naga Loh Phuam (RNLP/lmphal Luangrian) demanded authority concerned to take immediate action and arrest the culprits involved in the barbaric murder of the two students and award befitting punishment according to law of the land.
They also called for retrieving the bodies of the two slain students so as to hand them over to the bereaved families for performing their last rites.
Denouncing the excessive force used by security personnel against the unarmed student protestors who Were demanding justice for the murdered duo which resulted in injuries to more than one hundred students, they said that the government should bear all cost of treatment of the injured students and stop such brutal crackdown on civilians.
If the government continues to act against the sentiment of the people, then students might even leave their books and revolt against the state, they cautioned.
Similarly, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation condemned the use of tear gas, rubber bullet, mob bomb and firing of live rounds towards uniform-wearing students and further stated that use of such excessive force violates human rights and child rights.
It also denounced the brutalities committed by the security forces on the protestors shouting slogans demanding swift justice for Linthoingambi and Hemanjit at Hatta Bazar on Thursday night and added that several forms of protests will be launched until justice is delivered.
