RIMS campus to be plastic free zone

Imphal, September 29 2023:
In order to reduce plastic waste in its premises, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has decided to ban use of plastic water bottles less than 5 litres capacity and use of plastic carry bags at the RIMS campus and wards with effect from October 1 .
In a release, RIMS media advisor N Phillip Singh conveyed that plastic bottles and bags disposed in inappropriate places within the campus has been a matter of great concern as such acts clog drainage system, cause inundation and other hazardous consequences to the environment.
RIMS authority also requested its staff, students, patients and general public to carry reusable water bottles from homes.
Further, all stores, canteens and pharmacies within the institute's premises are to discontinue selling of water bottles except 5 litres and above and use of plastic carry bags for any purpose.
Drinking water (RO) stations are being installed at the RIMS campus, the release maintained and urged the public to extend cooperation in making RIMS campus plastic free zone.
